Cafe 58 tips to help you enjoy Silent Saturday (which is next weekend,
Oct 27, throughout all AYSO Regions in the San Fernando Valley).
3. Great big thanks to our Cafe 58 Sponsors
4. Update on our Scholarship Funds
1. Volunteer "Rock Star" Appreciation - FREE ICE CREAM SUNDAES -
As mentioned last week, we are tracking the volunteer points earned by
each team for the "Division Day" jobs of Snack Bar, Field Setup, Field
Takedown, Info Tent and Field Monitor. Cafe 58 will be providing FREE ICE CREAM SUNDAES
to the parents and players of the teams in each Division with the most
volunteer points as of last weekend. We will be contacting the coaches
over the next few days to arrange when we can schedule the celebration,
but we are targeting to have it on Oct 27 (which will be both Silent
Saturday and our "sort of" Halloween day at Cafe 58). We are still just
about half-way through the season, so there's plenty of time to get
your team included in the "Rock Star" category and get some more
"goodies" before the end of the season... set the right example for your
kids - VOLUNTEER!!!
2. Cafe 58 tips to help you enjoy Silent Saturday -
As you are definitely aware of by now, Saturday, Oct 27, is Silent
Saturday on the soccer fields of VNSO and throughout the San Fernando
Valley. Emails will be sent with the guidelines, so I'm not going to
repeat them. However, from the perspective of Cafe 58, the key question
is: what can we do to support your efforts on Silent Saturday? The
answer is obvious (at least to me!!!) - Get some food at Cafe 58 BEFORE the
game, bring it to the field and keep munching throughout the entire
game. For a 50+ minute game, this might require LOTS of food, but I
think that the smacking of the lips on a couple of tasty egg sandwiches
or hamburgers with fries won't violate the silence guidelines (as long
as the lip-smacking is done relatively quietly). And ask yourself the
question - what else would you rather be doing to keep that voice inside
other than supporting Cafe 58?
3. Great big thanks to our Cafe 58 Sponsors -
we
continue to get AWESOME support every week from our two main Cafe 58
sponsors - Central Valley Builders Supply (with all of the propane for
the grill, for which we say "tank-you" very much) and Groundwork Coffee
(for all of the Certified Organic coffee that DID win our taste test
once again this year). Please support our Sponsors as a way of saying
thank you to them - they are local businesses giving back to their
community.
4. Update on our Scholarship Funds - To date, we have raised close to $7,000 from the proceeds of Cafe 58 for our program - this is incredible given
that we are just about half-way through the season. Let's keep the
momentum going to keep our registration fees as low as possible and
still provide the required financial support to members of our community
to participate in our program. We did have a slight "dip" in our sales
last
week (not the cheese dip used on our Nachos), but the good news was that
our Chili was a HUGE hit. We are right on track to meet our goal, and
you can see that progress on our Cafe 58 webpage located at:
http://www.ayso58.org/Default.aspx?tabid=937931
We
hope to see everyone again this weekend - and remember to enjoy Silent
Saturday in a couple of weeks; just let the kids play and you'll be pleasantly surprised at
how wonderful it is to see the kids work together and truly enjoy
the game.
