Turf Field Guide for Coaches

AYSO Region 58
Turf Field Use Guidelines for Coaches

AYSO Region 58 has permits to use the two full size synthetic turf fields in the park from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. every Monday through Friday during our season. Because there is limited space available on the synthetic turf fields, we ask that all AYSO coaches follow these guidelines in using the fields for training sessions.

  1. Please be courteous to other AYSO coaches and work together to share the available training areas fairly and respectfully;
  2. The City’s rules for use of the fields must be followed at all times. Please keep in mind that no food or drinks are allowed on the turf other than water. Chairs, benches, tents, goals with spikes, and other similar devices are not allowed. Parents should sit on the bleachers or outside of the fenced area;
  3. When there are multiple teams seeking to use the fields, training areas on the turf should be limited to 1/16th sections of each field. That means each training area should be approximately 75’ by 50’. 16U and 14U teams have priority to use the eastern-most synthetic turf field (T2) and may use larger spaces;
  4. Coaches seeking to run scrimmages or to conduct trainings that have larger space requirements should do so in the non-turf portions of the park;
  5. Keep training sessions on the turf field to no more than 90 minutes and preferably 60 minutes or less if the fields are in heavy use;
  6. If non-AYSO coaches are using the space during AYSO permitted times and are interfering with your ability to practice, please politely advise them that AYSO has paid to use the space and request that they leave. If they refuse to do so, request their name and program information and take a picture if you can do so without incident. If a representative from the park is available, please report the non-permitted use to that representative. If not, then report it to your Division Manager.

On game days, contrary to our region’s normal rules, on the synthetic turf fields both teams should be on the same side of the field. Home side parents and family members should be in the bleachers to the west and visitors should be in the bleachers to the east. Players and coaches should remain on the field unless heat conditions require that they seek shade.

Because teams and families will be on the same side, it is critically important that coaches keep an eye on their players and parents and ensure that they stay within their areas. Coaches on the full size fields must remain within the portion of the field where their bleachers are. Coaches on the small size fields must remain on their side of the permanent goal. Coaches must ensure that substitute players stay in that area as well to avoid any confrontations.

If these policies are not working, need any clarification, or any additional rules are required, please contact your division manager or assistant commissioner and alert them to the issue. Please also remember that we are all volunteers and we are all working towards the same goal of creating a positive soccer experience for the kids.
