AYSO Region 58

COVID-19 Update

Updated August 31, 2021

AYSO Region 58 members, families, and soccer community,

With the Los Angeles County Dept of Public Health updating the organized Youth Sports guidelines effective Sept 1, 2021, we are encouraging our Region 58 members to continue to take the social responsibility for the health and safety of our players, coaches, families and overall soccer community.

As our events occur outside, and not in sufficient numbers to invoke rules pertaining to large sporting events, universal masking is not mandated, it is important that our Region 58 members and families understand that we must all do our part to keep our soccer community safe.

In accordance with LADPH guidelines stating that “[w]hen outdoors, masks are recommended in crowded spaces and places, including among spectators at sporting events where distancing is not practical or possible.”, Region 58 is asking for everyone ages 12 and over attending an AYSO event to wear a mask except when playing, coaching, or reffing on the field. Additionally, per the County, “[i]t is strongly recommended that all student athletes ages 12 and older, coaches, team staff and referees are fully vaccinated.”

As regards to routine testing for Covid-19, per the LADPH order no screening/testing is required for children under age 12 playing Outdoor Sports. Persons 12 and over who can show proof of vaccination, or who can show laboratory results of having recovered from Covid-19 within the last 90 days, and having completed isolation, are exempt from the testing requirements. The Los Angeles County Order requires a weekly negative test result for all players, staff, coaches, referees, and volunteers ages 12 and older who are not fully vaccinated. Weekly school testing fulfills this obligation.

In the event a child is home schooled or attends a school that does not participate in a weekly testing program, families can access the LADPH website at http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/coronavirus/ for a list of locations that offer free testing.

Families with a player under age 12 are required to immediately report a positive case or potential exposure to their players coach and Division Coordinator. Whenever a confirmed case is identified on any of the teams, Region 58 will follow instructions listed in the Exposure Management Plan for Youth Sports and follow quarantine protocols promulgated by the County. See here for reference.

We ask all Region 58 families to be respectful of each other as we navigate this process together. We want everyone to get back to playing the game of soccer the way it is supposed to be enjoyed and meant to be played.

Thank you for helping to be part of a solution!

 Yours in soccer,

Sasha Saldana
